Soulmates

The quest for love is imperative for most of us. However elusive it can be, we never give up looking for our “soulmate”. The myth of Cupid and Psyche illustrates the power of love and the true meaning of the term “Soulmates.” Psyche’s quest to win back Cupid’s love dates back to the 2nd century AD. Psyche is such a beautiful princess, that the goddess Venus becomes jealous of her. She instructs her son Cupid to make Psyche fall in love with a hideous monster, so all attention would again be on Venus.

Instead, Cupid falls in love with Psyche himself. He becomes her unseen husband, visiting her only at night. Psyche is sworn not to look upon the face of her unseen husband lest she lose his trust and his love. Out of fear, she broke her promise and Cupid left her. She appeals to the Goddess Venus and undertakes a series of cruel and difficult tasks in the hope of winning him back. Eventually, Cupid can no longer bear witness to her suffering or be apart from her and pleads their cause to the gods. Psyche becomes an immortal and the lovers are married in heaven. Cupid is said to represent the heart and Psyche , the soul of a relationship. Our embracing lovers symbolize that heart and soul and the ideal of finding your “Soulmate”.
