In this piece, the figure is found in full Lotus position; this is the classical sitting position used for meditation during extended periods of time.
Surrounding the figure is a lotus flower. The Lotus flower is a symbol for the potential of each and every human being. The Lotus emerges from the mud, journeys upward through the water, and finally blossoms fully to reveal itself to the sun. We, as humans, follow a similar path.
Our journey begins in the darkness of our mother’s womb. As we grow, we begin to develop intellect, emotions, and discover our place in the world. Eventually, we hope to blossom like the lotus as we find our connection to Spirit.
In the lotus petals are the symbols, Om Mani Padme Hum, which translates to, “The Jewel in the Lotus”. Om represents the impure body, speech, and mind of the practitioner, as well as, the pure body, speech, and mind of a Buddha.
Mani, or jewel, symbolizes ones intention to become enlightened, full of love and compassion. Padme, meaning lotus, symbolizes wisdom.
The final syllable, Hum, represents indivisibility.
Lastly, one will notice the Om symbol placed near the heart on the practitioner’s sash. Om, pronounced Aum, is an ancient universal sound; know as the original sound where all creation emerged. The belief is that all living beings, all material objects, all languages and scriptures came from this sound. The letter A, represents creation, U symbolizes preservation, and M represents destruction.
Wear this piece as a reminder to blossom to your fullest potential with compassion, love, and grace!
